FreeBSD Weblog

Hi folks. This is more an easy way for me to get at my docs than anything else, so it's not so interesting. I'm adding stuff that I've authored slowly. In the mean time feel free to browse thru my pics here:

Logging with awstats

I recently started using awstats to analyze web statistics for the domains I host on the server. The following article details how I did this, including various shell and PHP scripts as well as apache httpd configuration directives:

SimpleAuth

A set of PHP scripts to demonstrate the use of PHP sessions and MySQL for authentication in a multi-user website can be found here:

Perl Scripts

Some perl scripts I've written can be found here.

FreeBSD Problems Page

More and more I'm coming across problems that I've had trouble finding answers to whilst administering FreeBSD. A list of these problems can be found here:

FreeBSD Server Setup For A Multi-User Environment

I recently wrote this rough guide to remind me what is needed when rebuilding a multi-user FreeBSD server from scratch. The guide is one long text detailing in chronological order the steps involved in building a machine from scratch, with lots of notes added. Maybe others will find it of use - better to download this and read it in a text editor, it's a text file with some very long lines:

Using NFS to export your home directory

I recently made the move away from windows totally and so now I have 2 FreeBSD machines (what else ;)! I got fed up though of having 2 different 'munk' home directories - one on the main server and one on the new 'dev' server, so I decided to have my /home/munk directory on the main server exported to the dev server when I boot up the dev machine.

I documented the steps I took to do this and you can find the guide here - again it's probably best to download this text file and read it locally, I'll get around to converting all these text docs to HTML eventually, I swear :):

IP Masquerading on Linux with ipchains

This is a tutorial I wrote a long time ago for setting up IP masquerading on a simple 2 machine network allowing a windows machine to connect to the internet through a linux PPP connection:

HLSW Files

HLSW is a nifty Counter-Strike server tool, similar to GameSpy but better in that it updates servers in real time without you having to refresh it. You can download HLSW here.

My own HLSW server list files can be found here:
